Saving lives in distress at sea is not just an obligation under international law, it’s our moral duty. Boats and crews doing search and rescue operations cannot and must not be criminalised https://t.co/2Y75Cdl5Kx

.@WHO have declared Ebola a public health emergency of international concern. UNHCR supports the decision+is ready to support. Many people have been displaced in eastern DRC due to violence+conflict. They need concerted action to prevent the disease spreading. https://t.co/Xb5Ipb60Q4

Tragic news this morning of woman found dead on a boat attempting to reach Spain. Thank you to Spanish Maritime Rescue Service for saving nearly 300 people Increased efforts needed to stop people feeling they have to take these journeys in the first place https://t.co/oUqqMmKBgA

Political debate around refugees is becoming worryingly toxic. Refugees who fled intolerance are facing rising levels of intolerance in countries they thought would protect them. We MUST stand up to populism + double down on universal values of respect, empathy+understanding. https://t.co/zlZ2hanyri

@Caro50886110 Hi Carolyn, thanks for your concern. Sadly, our GDF only has capacity to host people identified for evacuation+resettlement. It's already severely over-capacity. We're working to help more people, but we urgently need States to come forward with more+faster evacuation places.

200 people have been taken to Tajoura detention centre since it was emptied last week. This never should have happened. 3 July showed the real threat to people's lives when detained there. The detainees MUST be released immediately in a safe, ordered manner. https://t.co/v4O4CGNlhw

NGO search+rescue boats play crucial role saving lives on Med but we need perspective. Majority of rescues are NOT by NGO boats Europe MUST develop a system to receive+host them. Q of political will Flag States should focus on saving lives, not fear hosting handful of refugees https://t.co/uDhYQi1Z4X

1,000+ children under the age of 18 are currently being held inside Libyan detention centres. They face appalling conditions, and a lack of food, water & healthcare. Urgent need to evacuate them and other vulnerable refugees now! https://t.co/kC6ZwgafJD
