@SALLESuresnes my interest is in preventing deaths on the Mediterranean Sea. There is a broad consensus that people fleeing violence + detention centres in Libya should not be left to die at sea.

@EliziaVolkmann More search and rescue capacity including EU State vessels. And a system in place so boats immediately know where to dock rescued passengers. No returns to Libya. Guarantees against return to home countries for people needing asylum.

BREAKING: @RefugeesChief + @IOMchief welcome consensus on need to act on Libya+Med, still long way to go! Need for - end arbitrary detention in Libya - save lives at sea, including a return of EU state vessels - evacuate refugees out of Libya to safety https://t.co/HUEutpb5J6

An end to the boat by boat approach to saving rescued refugees on the Med is urgently needed. The only people who benefit from leaving boats stranded at sea is unscrupulous politicians who reap the rewards from a feeling of crisis through political point-scoring. https://t.co/Coup5kTOgn

This is necessary because for too long, States ignored the need to reinforce search+rescue capacity on the Mediterranean. NGOs filled the gap + saved thousands of lives. But a European State search and rescue operation must now also return to the Med. With no returns to Libya. https://t.co/uyj3DHyjcK

@Merlotmike the NGOs have saved thousands of lives. Their role is vital. States should come together to develop a quick system for docking rescued passengers. This will prevent any 'dumping' of people anywhere
