Rescue at sea is not complete until the rescued passengers feet touch dry land at a port of safety. Not allowing boats carrying rescued passengers to dock puts at risk the centuries old tradition and obligation under int’l law of rescuing people in distress at sea! https://t.co/rGnsenpQCt

Seeking asylum is a fundamental human right Not just in theory. People must be able to exercise that right in reality. Involves giving access to territory+asylum procedures Urgent that Europe allows @openarms_fund to dock. States shld then share responsibility for hosting them. https://t.co/P0G1zchoR5

@MarieLouiseSeeb @Caro50886110 @openarms_found Others may be in need of other forms of humanitarian protection too. Indeed not straightforward at all.

NGOs do hugely important humanitarian work, saving lives in distress at sea. They should be celebrated, not stigmatised. Time to let @openarms_found dock + allow the rescued refugees the assistance they need. Europe is better than to leave people in need at sea for days on end https://t.co/eHd18awp7Y

LATEST: Intensifying violence and widespread human rights violations are causing thousands to flee from Mali. Many are in need of refugee protection. We're calling on States to give them access to asylum and not to return them to Mali https://t.co/405FshUeXW

UN calls on all parties to the war in Libya to call a truce to mark Eid al-Adha. Dialogue should then follow to bring an end to the violence. Those in the Int'l community w/ influence over the parties MUST use it to ensure they come to the negotiating table. https://t.co/dbjE3le587

Ignoring the plight of refugees and migrants who have fled war and violence in Libya by boat, by refusing them to dock and receive assistance, is to pile suffering on top of suffering https://t.co/DHSzKMZYgb
