People fleeing from Libya to Europe face incredible & rising dangers. Last year, 1 person died for every 14 that reached Europe. This is in part due to deliberate efforts to restrict NGO search & rescue vessels. https://t.co/aqLN6OEHeg

Shocking New UNHCR report reveals 6 people lost their lives EACH DAY attempting to cross the Mediterranean. This is a question of humanity. Can we muster the compassion to save lives on our doorstep? https://t.co/aqLN6OEHeg https://t.co/qzgkhmVwjt

A vital lifeline, literally. 130 refugees were evacuated out of Libya today. They no longer endure appalling conditions inside a detention centre. https://t.co/OIpZEmXAOH

@elduder78333910 @seawatch_intl I’m not gonna justify why ppl shouldn’t be left stranded at sea in winter, especially coming from Libya where many have faced human rights violations. If there are any who are not in need of safety they should be supported to return home, but v. possible some will need protection

13 kids who have no parents or family with them are also on board. They urgently need to be brought ashore. Low winter temperatures and rough winter conditions make this an especially dangerous time for anyone to be left stranded at sea

Situation is critical! Urgent need to allow the 47 rescued people on board @seawatch_intl to dock at a safe port immediately https://t.co/BLnDnTB0sk

@Azmatsocial @PaoloBiondi82 @JFCrisp Agree, the toxic tone of the debate around refugees in Europe is concerning. Real need to shift approach as arrivals are down but deaths remain high. Needs to be treated as a humanitarian issue focused on saving lives

@AdelReyhani @PaoloBiondi82 @JFCrisp Exactly, we have repeatedly pointined out that widespread human rights violations are taking place inside Libya, part of the reason we have repeatedly called for *no one* to be returned to Libya, and for a multi state approach to rescue at sea.

@JFCrisp @PaoloBiondi82 It is difficult to see the support of that assessment when the evidence you link to is an article you also wrote. UNHCR's last two press releases on the Med both offered constructive criticism on what should be done.

@JFCrisp A State cannot commit ‘refoulement’ against itself. There may be other violations of human rights law depending on the context but there needs be actors from multiple states for refoulement to be carried out
