NGO search & rescue boats are *not* a pull factor. Fleeing war, violence & persecution is the *push* factor. People do not risk their lives on these fatal journeys unless they feel so desperate that there is no other choice.

All 3 of calls are rational and reasonable. The way forward is there. The number of people attempting the crossing is down, and easily manageable. This is now a question of whether Europe can muster the humanity to save people needing safety on its doorstep

NGO search & rescue boats *do* save lives of people who may otherwise drown. Europe's modern identity has been built on shared values of compassion, dignity & human rights. Those values are sorely needed to prevent another year of thousands of deaths on the Mediterranean.

1. Support NGO rescue operations (critical, they play vital role) 2. Adopt a predictable regional approach to docking passengers (stop rescued @refugees being stranded at sea for days on end) 3. End returns to Libya (prevent people ending up in horrific detention centers)

Today, NGOs have issued an appeal to European Governments to end the "tragedy unfolding before their eyes" on the Mediterranean Sea. More can and must be done so that we don't unnecessarily lose another 2,275 men, women & children at sea in 2019 https://t.co/v5HYtEfYwL
