@Caro50886110 @UNHCRLibya @Refugees @IOM_Libya While Tripoli is the battleground for violent clashes, scope for independent living for refugees is limited. Evacuations out of Libya are needed.

Please read this important article. It details exactly why NO ONE should be returned to Libya at this time. https://t.co/9qG2Q6hZ2H

Worrying reports of efforts to ban @seawatch_intl from Italian waters. NGO boats have saved countless lives. A comprehensive & predictable approach to disembarkation is needed. The ad hoc, boat by boat approach perpetuates feelings of 'crisis'. This situation is manageable. https://t.co/HhAWbpA3M4

@Caro50886110 @UNHCRLibya Not sure if you have impression we run detention centres? We don't, & firmly call for people NOT to be held in detention. We have limited access for limited periods of time. We provide the aid we can in that window, but certainly not even close to being able to provide tuition!

1,235 children under the age of 18 are currently being held inside Libyan detention centres. They face appalling conditions, and a lack of food, water & healthcare. Urgent need to evacuate them and other vulnerable refugees now! https://t.co/eTVHS8HoEv

@JFCrisp At a time when search and rescue capacity is already insufficient, more capacity is needed, of all kinds, not less. Q is what happens after people are saved, where they are disembarked. UNHCR has called for a regional approach for this, with no returns to Libya

@JFCrisp Regardless of whether it’s refoulement or not though, no one should be returned to Libya at this time.

@JFCrisp It depends by who. A state cannot commit refoulement against itself. That is not to say other areas of int'l law and HR law are not applicable.
