Please watch + share this important @nytimes video on Tajoura detention centre. This is why no refugees rescued on the Med should be brought back to Libya. This is why all those in detention centres in Libya must be released immediately. https://t.co/PA4ByLTLhi

Article raises important points. Countries traveled through b4 Libya are also safe. Resettlement is not a right, but a vital tool to save most vulnerable. At same time, more needs to be done to strengthen asylum+create sustainable opportunities in those countries, esp. for youth https://t.co/LQpZuRpgHc

18,488 people have died on the Mediterranean since 2014. If current trends continue, 2019 will be 6th year in a row that more than 1,000 people have died Thousands more die on journeys through the desert before ever stepping foot on a boat. Time to do more. Time to do better. https://t.co/IEzqm8EMOs

@Caro50886110 @balqees_khalifa @UNHCRLibya @Refugees Caroline, we said they have been freed, with the choice to stay also. This is better than being detained. Some support has been given, more tomorrow. Our teams have been in Tajoura. We know who was there.

@Caro50886110 @balqees_khalifa @UNHCRLibya @Refugees Some have places to go through community ties, others not. They can stay. We will be back tomorrow. For those on the outside, we are providing relief items, cash+medical care. Being able to leave is better than not being able to. Safe options are few. We’re working on it.

@GiuliaRastajuly Giulia, there have been misconceptions about which centres are run by UNHCR. Similar reports in the past have ended up not being UNHCR centres. Please share any details with me privately and we will look in to it. But we can only evacuate when states provide places

@sunderland_jude Far from ideal situation. We are providing cash, medical care, relief items, etc...where we can. Our teams will be back tomorrow. We continue to lobby for more sustainable solutions. Critical to get support of int' community with this i.e. evacuations
