@MissaMHx To be fair, it’s a broken system, & healthcare and research shouldn’t be in domain of private sector anyway. But big pharma doesn’t do itself any favors by suppressing unfavorable clinical trial data, questionable marketing strategies, heavy lobbying etc

@MissaMHx Some estimates suggest that for truly innovative new drugs, 75% of new research comes from the academy or small enterprises. Meanwhile, unprofitable diseases like Ebola & malaria are left by the wayside.

@MissaMHx Those small companies are often borne out of the academy, where health factors are the incentive. Many fail & go bust, while Big Pharma, with its profit & shareholder motives reap the $$$ of the few successful ones, & then spend more on marketing drugs than on R & D itself

@MissaMHx might be true for the company you're working, but most Big Pharma invest in developing 'me too' drugs. Most initial research on truly innovative new drugs come from state funded research or smaller biotech firms, then bought up by Big Pharma at later stages

The number of refugees and migrants arriving in Europe is down tremendously. The situation is manageable, not one of crisis. https://t.co/FmeISF0tmW

Very positive news that the Aquarius' rescued passengers have now all been safely disembarked. NGO boats like the Aquarius play a critical role in saving lives in distress on the Mediterranean Sea. https://t.co/QVoQg0AXP8

Great example of the benefits of a collaborative approach. Now time to put in place a predictable, regional approach that ends the ad-hoc impasses faced by boats carrying rescued passengers. #Aquarius @SOSMedIntl https://t.co/ut5hFXZYTY

Nobody chooses to put themselves and their family in a rickety boat and make a perilous journey across the Mediterranean unless the land feels more dangerous than the sea #aquarius
