No such thing as a 'genuine' or 'fake' asylum seeker. Int'l law guarantees everyone the right to seek asylum, enshrined in the 1951 Refugee Convention after the horrors of WW2. Whether refugee status is granted depends on their situation. But *all* have a right to apply.

.@seawatchcrew & @seaeyeorg remain stranded at sea carrying rescued refugees & migrants. They've been at sea for 13 days now. Urgent need for Europe to come together in solidarity, allow them to dock & share responsibility for hosting them. Cannot be left to Med countries alone! https://t.co/W7HebmYaaE

What was the point of that? Hardly ‘entertainment’ to see such a mismatch. https://t.co/iowfEQI0X3

Numbers are down considerably. The situation is manageable with political will. Fundamental human values of humanity and compassion make this a moral imperative for 2019. No more lives unnecessarily lost at sea! https://t.co/ylBjxQ6AAm

Saving lives at sea does not end with taking people out of the water and on to a boat. Lives are not saved until people have reached a safe port. Refugees should not have to suffer the consequences of repeating political stand-offs https://t.co/unF3wlcP6r

The number of arrivals reaching Europe via the Med is down considerably but deaths in 2018 still numbered more than 2,000. Urgent need for a predictable arrangement in 2019 that allows for the timely & predictable docking of rescued passengers. https://t.co/5knZIoX5FV

Time is running out. Rough seas and storms are approaching in the coming hours. Urgent need for a safe port for 49 @refugees & migrants currently stranded at sea. Life-saving work from @seaeyeorg + @seawatchcrew . Once again shows critical role of NGO boats! https://t.co/UvkaAhj5tW

In 2016, Uganda recieved around 8,000 people fleeing from South Sudan in a single day. Any discussions on 6 people arriving by boat to the UK should be on how to ensure people don’t attempt such dangerous journeys in the first place. More safe, legal pathways needed
