It is of vital importance to the Afghan people that the international community does not neglect Afghanistan. Read my interview with @Kathygannon on my visit to the country. πŸ‘‡πŸ» https://t.co/basHnYP7xa

Today we have passed another terrible milestone: three million refugees have fled from Ukraine. The war has to stop. Now.

I spoke with the Taliban about forcibly displaced Afghans. The best solution β€” we agreed β€” is that displaced people and refugees return home safely and voluntarily. To get there, trust must be built among them β€” which means security, rights, livelihoods and services for all. https://t.co/k01494LtkP

Back in Afghanistan six months after my last visit to review progress and discuss challenges regarding the humanitarian situation in the country, focusing especially on people who are displaced or who are returning to their communities. https://t.co/SSU6Ggvz0R

As air strikes and shelling intensify in Ukraine, more people seek shelter away from their homes. The Ukrainian authorities, brave citizens and humanitarian agencies help as they can, in spite of huge risks. Targeting civilian people and structures violates international law.

At the @AntalyaDF all agreed that in spite of the extreme gravity of the Ukraine situation, other crises β€” and their humanitarian consequences β€” must not be forgotten. I am therefore glad to now head to Afghanistan, where millions continue to struggle to meet their basic needs. https://t.co/srB13yR3ex

Poland, UNHCR and @CaritasPolska have launched a cash aid programme for refugees fleeing Ukraine. I am grateful to Prime Minister @MorawieckiM, to his government and to the Polish people for their exceptional support. Read our joint statement: πŸ‘‡πŸ» https://t.co/jc4Ks7Z75Y #unhcr

The number of refugees from Ukraine β€” tragically β€” has reached today 2.5 million. We also estimate that about two million people are displaced inside Ukraine. Millions forced to leave their homes by this senseless war.

Thank you for your support @BillGates, and for your leadership in calling for solidarity with the victims of war in Ukraine, and with refugees in neighbouring countries. https://t.co/5XaJQY3GJ9

UNHCR needs about $500m for its emergency work in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. So far we have received over $300m of which almost $200m from individuals, companies and foundations. This is unprecedented: a sign of extraordinary solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
