Hippie mumbo jumbo. Things would turn to shit if everyone had enough to survive and live a dignified life. Not sure how, but they would. https://t.co/dPsKFtgxwg

Rate of people dying on Central Mediterranean returned to 1 in 7 in Sept Legal & logistical restrictions mean there are now NO NGO boats doing search&rescue Only Libyan Coast Guard left. Once returned to Libya, rescued people face a volatile situation&routine use of detention

1700+ people have died in 2018 attempting to cross the Mediterranean. Many more die at mercy of smugglers & traffickers before even reaching the sea. More search&rescue must go hand in hand w/ dismantling smuggler networks & strengthening asylum opportunities in transit countries

This demonstrates urgent need for regional arrangement for disembarkation of boats. Without clarity & predictability on where to dock rescued passengers, shipmasters may think twice about responding to distress calls. Delays of even seconds could cost lives! https://t.co/F8dsp63pPi
