More than 1,700 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean. Knowing that, why would you put your life in the hands of smugglers & risk it? Quite simply, because for many, the prospect of dying at sea is outweighed by what they're leaving behind on land.

South Korea has granted protection to around 340 Yemeni asylum-seekes who arrived on Jeju Island. A great gesture of solidarity at a time when Yemen is beset by conflict and famine!

Last night, UNHCR evacuated 135 people out of Libyan detention centres to Niger. Thanks to resettlement countries, they’ll be able to live somewhere safe and start a new life but many more in Libya need evacuating
