@JFCrisp @Refugees UNHCR has repeatedly said, in the current context, no one rescued at sea on the Mediterranean should be returned to Libya

Although some @refugees are choosing to return to Burundi voluntarily, UNHCR is *not* promoting returns, as human rights concerns persist. UNHCR urge States to ensure that no refugee is returned to Burundi against their will. https://t.co/m5pRB03n3z

Last year, Burundi refugees had to survive cuts to food rations, lack of medicines, overcrowded schools and inadequate shelter. Women & girls face high threats of sexual assault & physical violence. Some have to resort to survival sex, and forced and early marriage

Children make up more than 50% of the @refugees population. And they're bearing the brunt of the crisis. Just 20% of secondary school-aged Burundian refugee children are enrolled in school. They deserve their innocence & a proper education. https://t.co/m5pRB03n3z

UNHCR is appealing for $296 million for the chronically & acutely underfunded Burundi @refugees crisis. Without further support, will be a struggle to meet even basic needs https://t.co/m5pRB03n3z https://t.co/YgZuYGzO7V

Awful, tragic news from Poland and a stark warning. No one should die or even be attacked, harassed or intimidated for their political beliefs https://t.co/aKgtzgtERg

NGO search&rescue boats play a critical role in saving lives in danger on the Mediterranean Sea. The legal & logistical restrictions being placed on them by States is having a deterrent effect & is deeply concerning. Less NGO boats means more lives may be unnecessarily lost https://t.co/6O7o2e6ZM9

@SpreeLumumba @JFCrisp I don’t think anyone is suggesting it can?

@JFCrisp @SpreeLumumba It’s not either/or though? We can acknowledge the challenges while also celebrating positives. And the challenges of refugee camps is well documented, often in a rather undignified way. Recasting refugees as a lot more than passive victims/beneficiaries is surely a good thing?

@JFCrisp Isn’t this a bit of ‘whatabouttery’? A place can have something good and interesting about it while also having other challenges?
