UNHCR and Tanzania are good partners. In an excellent meeting, I thanked President @SuluhuSamia for Tanzania’s hospitality to refugees. We also discussed how to help Burundi remove obstacles to the voluntary return of its refugees. These efforts need more international support. https://t.co/boAdEFr4PS

Today I was at Nyarugusu camp, Tanzania. It hosts 130,000 Burundian and Congolese refugees. Much progress since my last visit: we’ll keep working with authorities and partners to improve the lives of refugees and hosts, and seek durable solutions including voluntary repatriation. https://t.co/keUoYcdakp

Glad to be back in Tanzania, a country that for decades has hosted hundreds of thousands of refugees from the region. Strengthening support to the government, improving protection and assistance to refugees and finding solutions to their plight will be key issues for this visit. https://t.co/KUiRhcpTiR

It is worrying that fighting has resumed in Ethiopia. I echo UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres’ concerns: fresh hostilities will cause more suffering to civilians and increase the number of displaced people in the country and across its borders. A ceasefire is needed, soon.

Happy to be on a #TICAD8 panel with the governments of Uganda and Zambia, @SPimentaIFC and @Tsusho. We spoke of ways to improve refugee inclusion and support to host communities in Africa through humanitarian and development work. Grateful to #JICA and Japan for organizing it. https://t.co/EhTVY4xNXz

On #WorldHumanitarianDay we honour aid workers who lost their lives in the line of duty. But we also reaffirm that every attack on humanitarians, every denial of access to people in need, puts fragile lives at risk. And we ask world leaders to respect humanitarian work. https://t.co/Bt7zBGWJWv

It is always a pleasure to meet Dr Abdullah Al Rabeeah and review our cooperation. We at UNHCR value the partnership with @KSRelief and continue to count on Saudi Arabia’s support 🇸🇦 as we respond together to the humanitarian needs of vulnerable displaced people in the world. https://t.co/nwT9KB9IN9

Today our thoughts are with #Afghanistan. Aid organizations have helped avoid a humanitarian disaster and massive displacement but international help is needed to stay the course before winter. Meanwhile we continue to insist on basic rights, especially of women and minorities. https://t.co/gYcuv1TqXb

Too many young people are refugees, displaced, stateless: for too many of them youth will not be a time of hope but one of anguish. But when they overcome adversity and in spite of all odds they succeed in life — that is something to be celebrated! #YouthDay2022 @AlphonsoDavies https://t.co/sxoNXbx5HC

Congratulations to Liberia, to President @GeorgeWeahOff and his government for granting women and men equal rights to confer nationality to their children. Amending gender discriminating nationality laws is a key step towards preventing statelessness. Liberia is showing the way! https://t.co/5ySO4VSAgR
