The Horn of Africa is experiencing a catastrophic drought- the worst in 4 decades. Millions now face severe hunger + hundreds of thousands have fled in search of life-saving aid. This crisis must not be overlooked. We appeal to the world for urgent support https://t.co/L1iFQdSfNT

The unprecedented volume of people forcibly displaced- more than 100 million - is unsustainable. This is why global collaboration to find solutions is urgent and a top priority. My remarks to the UN Refugee Agency's 84th Meeting of the Standing Committee: https://t.co/9cE2kcTwfR

Today on #WorldParliamentDay we recognize the tireless work of the @IPUparliament in encouraging parliaments worldwide to support the forcibly displaced and stateless - by securing their human rights, ensuring their full inclusion and countering discrimination.

For #WorldRefugeeDay, we commenced the week with faith actors incl @IRWorldwide @lutheranworld, @HIASrefugees + others, who've been key in supporting refugees and building inclusive societies. This commitment to "welcoming the stranger" is intrinsic to many faiths and traditions. https://t.co/2vzPWVDBnu

The gap between resettlement needs and the number of places available is widening. Last year, despite 1.47 million refugees estimated to need resettlement, fewer than 40,000 were resettled. We appeal to states for predictable, multi-year commitments and faster processing.

We've released our UN Refugee Agency global resettlement figures for next year. In 2023 resettlement needs will rise by 36% to 2 million, owing to the impacts of the pandemic, the emergence of new displacement situations, and protracted refugee situations.https://t.co/EeRS83ayvs

This is a momentous #WorldRefugeeDay, with Ivorian refugees finally returning home and ending their displacement. 96% of all Ivorian refugees have now returned home in the last decade. It shows that solutions are possible - when there is resolve and commitment. https://t.co/gunIe0HYl7
