Description
A group of refugees and asylum-seekers rushed to help local residents in Karditsa after unprecedented floods damaged their homes and businesses in late September 2020. Karditsa residents say that refugees did not cease to amaze them with their courage and stamina; offering crucial aid like hot meals during and after the chaotic rains and flooding. Anaptyxiaki Karditsas, which runs UNHCR’s EC-funded ESTIA housing scheme for asylum seekers residing in Karditsa was approached by several refugees eager to lend a hand by clearing out mud and debris from the flood-damaged “Stavrodromi” community center so it could again host meetings and classrooms for the refugees and the host community.
