A refugee family finds warmth in the festive city of Trikala

Μυstufa, Sultana and two of their children, refugees from Syria, spent their first festive season in Trikala in Central Greece. It is a city well known around the country for the “Mill of Elves” (Mylos ton Xotikon), its impressive Christmas park, which attracts several visitors every year. The Syrian family is living in an apartment in Trikala city through the programme ESTIA and has managed to find new friends, a welcoming local school and the hope that they can make a new start no matter where they are. Through ESTIA, the Emergency Support To Integration & Accommodation programme, refugees are provided with housing in apartments and financial support. In Trikala city the programme is implemented by UNHCR in collaboration with Trikala Municipality and funded by the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid.
