UNHCR’s Grandi urging the world to step up the response to Sudan's ongoing crisis
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency
Description
Ten months since conflict erupted in Sudan, nearly 8 million people have been displaced both in the country and across borders into Chad, South Sudan and Egypt, Central African Republic and Ethiopia. The conflict in Sudan has pushed the country’s economy to its knees and collapsed the health sector. The United Nations and its partners today appealed for a combined $4.1 billion to meet the most urgent humanitarian needs of civilians and those who have fled to neighbouring countries. Together, both plans aim to support some 17.4 million people in Sudan and the region. Last week the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi visited Ethiopia and Sudan to draw attention to the ongoing conflict and its effects on displaced families.
