In 2015, armed militants forced Om Saker and her three children to flee their village in western Iraq. They lost their home and all their belongings. In 2017, Om Saker’s husband – a policeman – went missing. She tries her best to provide for her family, but winters are especially hard. Last year, Om Saker received some much-needed help through UNHCR’s winter cash assistance for displaced families It helped her cope with the freezing weather. This winter, thousands of displaced single mothers like Om Saker are struggling to feed their families.
