Description
Amer Mach fled conflict in South Sudan in 2013 to find safety in Kenya. The sixteen-year-old who lives in Kakuma Refugee Camp later took an interest in chess after watching her siblings play the game. Today Amer is among the best players in the camp. Twice a week, the chess club at the Tumaini Girls Boarding Secondary School meets to learn more about chess, improve their skills and compete against one another. The school is located in Kenya’s North-western region, just outside the Kakuma Refugee Camp. About Half of the students here are refugees. The rest come from the local community.
