She is the first member of the Shona community in Kenya to graduate from university

Nosizi Reuben Dube, a member of Kenya’s Shona community, made history as the first in her community to earn a bachelor’s degree. Despite challenges related to her stateless status, which initially left her without a birth certificate or identity card, Dube was able to pursue her education with the help of UNHCR and its partners. She recently graduated from the University of Nairobi with a degree in economics. Her achievement marks a personal triumph and symbolizes hope for her community, which was stateless for over 50 years until citizenship was granted in 2021 by the Governement of Kenya.
