Nurse Recalls the Devastation of Cyclone Chido
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency
Description
Augusta is a dedicated nurse who was deeply affected when Tropical Cyclone Chido struck northern Mozambique over the weekend. A mother of four, and a "matrona”, a traditional midwife, Agusta moved to Mecufi to work at the local maternity center to support the community, bringing her experience and passion for helping others. When Cyclone Chido hit her neighbourhood, she lost everything, including her house. With the help of a neighbour, she collected some materials from the debris and now lives in a makeshift shelter. Tropical Cyclone Chido struck northern Mozambique over the weekend, bringing torrential rains and powerful winds that devastated communities in Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces. The storm destroyed homes, displaced thousands, and severely damaged roads and communication networks, hampering relief efforts in areas already hosting large numbers of forcibly displaced people.
