A legal Pro Bono Pledge that is empowering refugees from Ukraine

With support from PILnet, which coordinates the Global Refugee Forum Legal Community Pledge, in August 2022, European Lawyers in Lesvos (ELIL) started a collaboration between six law firms to provide a round-the-clock roster of pro bono lawyers who can respond to the legal needs of people who have been displaced by the war in Ukraine. Now more than 40 volunteer lawyers work across six locations across the Warsaw area, and so far, and have assisted the needs of more than 3,500 people. One of those people is Ella, a primary school teacher who fled Ukraine in 2022 with her two children. She was able to receive pro bono legal support when she arrived from Malgorzata Dziewanowska, which made her feel safe and welcome in Poland.
