Description
"We were attacked by a suicide terrorist." Adel, 48, is a former mechanic from the mainly Christian neighborhood of Dora in Baghdad, Iraq. With the invasion of his country in 2003, he lost his job supplying parts for agricultural machinery and began working for an international company. But a convoy of vehicles in which he was traveling was ambushed by a suicide bomber, killing nine of his colleagues. He then received written threats, citing verses from the Koran, branding him a traitor for working with foreigners. Adel fled to Syria where he is living with his family and receiving assistance from UNHCR to help with rent. "Iraq is over for me," he says.
