UNHCRCentralEurope
Description
This WRD, UNHCR Bulgaria collaborated with two popular street artists and Sofia municipality to paint a public bus with a mural symbolizing protection and promoting tolerance. Over the course of the next month, the bus will be transporting passengers along a regular route running from the capital's centre, Sofia University, to the outskirts of the city. The mural was painted over two days, 18 and 19 June, in the main Sofia bus depot by Plovdiv-based Stoyan Stoynov (www.enjoythecolors.com ) and Atanas Skondov and represent their interpretation of the plight of refugees. The message 'no one chooses to be a refugee' is painted on one side of the bus. On the back, the artists reinforce their interpretation with a colorful bird symbolizing peace and the UNHCR logo. On June 20, the UNHCR Representative in Bulgaria and representatives of Sofia Municipality and the State Agency for Refugees inaugurated the bus in front of official guests and members of the media.
