Music beyond borders: UNHCR-FundaMusical Programme

Music beyond borders: Instrument of Peace Simón Bolívar Music Foundation, FUNDAMUSICAL, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, signed an institutional alliance earlier this year to join forces in the international protection of refugees in Venezuela. Joint cooperation involves the design of a program for identification and inclusion of children and adolescent refugees in the orchestras at the border with Colombia in Zulia, Tachira and Apure State. One of the purposes is to measure the impact of music education and access to culture on issues such as reducing the traces of violence that has left the armed conflict in Colombia in the lives of refugee families in Venezuela, and the influence in their local integration. The program could be expanded, with the help of UNHCR, to the binational centers in Venezuela and Colombia that FUNDAMUSICAL is working on. The agreement also includes the achievement of special concerts, field missions and other social mobilization, both in Venezuela and Latin America and the world, designed to raise the voice of refugees and raise awareness about the situations they face every day.
