Rwandan refugee, Bahati shows how she is engaging for global action in Kenya

Bahati Ernestine is a refugee living in Kenya. She fled Rwanda in 1996 when she was just two years old. Bahati has a passion for youth and community and is using her skills and time to help the more vulnerable members of society - cooking for homeless families in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, every week. Bahati was a recipient of the DAFI scholarship - a programme that provides undergraduate refugee students with opportunities and support to pursue higher education. She holds a degree in nursing. When the COVID-19 pandemic started to spread in Kenya in March and through April, Bahati was winding up a six-month internship at Kenya’s largest referral hospital. While she was not directly working with COVID-19 cases, her work was crucial in supporting the overall health response and helping to keep services going. Bahati is currently working with other refugee and Kenyan youth to mobilize various community initiatives.
