“On the last day before we fled, we were scattered, everyone ran. My father, my husband, and three of my siblings were killed in front of my eyes, and I was shot in my right leg.” “This war took everything. We lost our money and our relatives. Some were killed and many are still missing. We were reduced to zero and we had to start from scratch.” “Here in the camp, 80 percent of the whole population are women. Many are widows, and they are left caring for their children alone.” Chad hosts more than 844,000 Sudanese refugees Most of them are women like Fatima, Radwa & Afrah Despite enduring the harshest realities of war, they are defying the odds to rebuild their lives “They chose me to be the camp's chairlady. I made a space for women to meet in the house that I was given by UNHCR. We contribute money and we buy items for baking, we make accessories, we make incense and cookies, and we sell them so we can take care of the children.” “Everyone needs support. That is why I support others, so we can all grow together and no one is left behind. I have employed 12 people, 13 including myself.
