Sanowsi Maki is a Pharmacist. He fled Darfur as fighting spread and found safety in Uganda and now he is working to rebuild his life and career. The 30-year-old volunteers as a community health worker at a settlement in northern Uganda and also plans to register for a licence to practice pharmacy in the country. When fighting spread to his hometown in Darfur in 2023, Sanowsi and his friends fled to Uganda. The group embarked on a long journey to safety that would take them through neighbouring South Sudan and later cross into Uganda. In Uganda, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, facilitated his relocation to Kiryandongo settlement in the country’s north. As the conflict rages on, thousands continue to flee every day, travelling hundreds of miles, often taking treacherous journeys in search of a safe place. Many were forced out of stable jobs, their professions, education and futures. #
