Burundi’s solidarity helps carpenter rebuild his life
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency
Description
After escaping conflict in DR Congo in 2023, Amani Elie set up a furniture business in Burundi’s Musenyi Site to help support his family. Burundi’s progressive policy allows refugees to access education, healthcare, jobs and other national services, helping them contribute towards the communities they live in. But continued conflict in neighbouring Congo is putting pressure on the country. This year alone, over 71,000 Congolese have arrived in Burundi to escape violence in eastern Congo, in what has become the largest influx the country has experienced in decades. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information for media: If you would like to use this video to communicate refugee stories or require B-Roll, transcripts, stills or much more information, please visit our media page: https://media.unhcr.org UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, works to protect and assist those fleeing war and persecution.
