Good practices on asylum in the Americas. Orientation sessions for refugees - United States
ACNUR La Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados
Description
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Asylum Offices organizes orientation sessions about benefits for recently recognized refugees. The purpose of these sessions is to provide information about their rights and responsibilities, once they have been granted protection. Orientation sessions cover many important topics, including how to get a social security number, what are the available public benefits, how to access education and health, and queries on immigration, naturalization and other legal matters. Sessions are organized in coordination with non-governmental partners and government agencies. Orientation sessions are considered to be very useful by refugees who are starting their integration process in the host country.
