In March 2021, the Colombian Government established the Temporary Protection Statute for Venezuelan Migrants Under the Temporary Protection Regime, a complementary mechanism to the international refugee protection regime. At the end of 2020, according to data from the Colombian Migration authority (Migración Colombia), there were more than one million seven hundred thousand refugees and migrants from Venezuela within the national territory, of which more than half remained in an irregular situation. The ETP is a legal mechanism for Venezuelans in Colombia who meet certain requirements that, through which it seeks to create a record of information of this population and subsequently grant them a Temporary Protection Permit (PPT). The PPT will allow Venezuelans to access basic services, including the national health system and vaccination plans against COVID-19, as well as achieve long-term solutions, such as access to the labor market.
