Schools in Colombia are unlocking the potential of refugees, displaced and returnee students

Mariangelis fled Venezuela along with her mother and two brothers. Today, as an eighth-grade student on Tierra Bomba Island, in Cartagena, Colombia, she talks about her motivations to continue her studies and expresses her gratitude for founding protection in her host community. Since 2019, the Pedagogy and Protection for Refugee and Migrant Children with a Mixed Approach (PPN) project was created in Colombia to generate inclusive environments. Improving and ensuring access to education for refugee, migrant, internally displaced and returnee children and adolescents. Also, teacher Astrid expresses the impact of the project on her school. Which she describes as transformative for the education system, since it has allowed a greater inclusion of displaced students. This project led by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, together with its partner Opcion Legal, has made it possible to raise awareness in more than 300 schools about mixed movements of people and inclusive education.
