Buenas prácticas de asilo en las Américas: Canadá. Procesos de revisión de archivo y audiencia breve
ACNUR La Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados
Description
The Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada has two separate processes for finalizing less complex claims for refugee protection: the file-review process, and the short-hearing process. The first one allows decision-makers to accept the claim without a hearing followed by a review of the evidence in the file, which includes confirmation of security screening, the Basis of Claim Form, identity documents and other relevant information. The short-hearing process allows the authorities to accept a claim for refugee protection after a short and focused hearing. A claim that is suitable for this process has only one or two issues which appear to be determinative of the application. This is a good triaging and differentiated processing practice that leads to faster refugee decisions.
