UNHCR West & Central Africa
Description
UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi is on a three-day visit to Chad With nearly 600,000 refugees and 400,000 internally displaced people, Chad is one of the largest refugee hosting countries in Africa despite having its own socio-economic, political and security challenges. Due to conflicts in neighbouring countries, Darfur, Sudan in the east, Cameroon in the west, and the Central African Republic in the south, Chad remains at the centre of a complex regional humanitarian situation. Grandi appealed for greater international and donor support for the West African country which is also facing climate related challenges, drought and food insecurity.
