Premiere of "Dangerous Hope" - an Anti-Human Trafficking film

On Thursday, 2 February, UNHCR and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), premiered an anti-trafficking (short) film dubbed “Dangerous Hope”. The 25 -min short film was produced by our High-Profile Supporter and Nollywood actress and filmmaker Judith Audu. The chief guest at the premiere was the Vice President of Nigeria (represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the President - Mr Ipaye). Other dignitaries included; - Minister for Women Affairs Minister and Social Development - Dame Pauline Tallen - Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development - Represented by the Director of Humanitarian Affairs Ms. Barbara Dele-Oye - UN in Nigeria Resident Coordinator – Mr. Mathias Schmale The diplomatic community, various government agencies, UN colleagues, the filming team, NGOs, CSOs and the media were also present. Mixed movements occur in many West African countries, particularly in border areas, and include vulnerable populations such as IDPs and refugees. These forcibly displaced people are often easy targets for traffickers, who take advantage of their precarious situation to exploit them. Being away from their familiar surroundings, IDPs and refugee often lose their community support networks and become socially and culturally isolated. The film, Dangerous Hope, examines human trafficking in the context of forced displacement and is set to educate viewers on how to empower and mobilize tools that can aid survivors of trafficking to reclaim their lives.
