DANGEROUS HOPE

Description

Nigeria is a country of origin, transit, and destination for mixed movement. These are situations where several people travel together, generally irregularly, using the same routes and means of transport, but for different reasons. Mixed movements are observed nationwide, particularly in border areas, including vulnerable forcibly displaced people such as IDPs and refugees. Forcibly displaced people frequently lose their community support networks and become socially and culturally isolated due to being removed from their familiar surroundings. These and other factors contribute to them becoming easy targets for traffickers, who prey on the precariousness of their situation to exploit them. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have collaborated and have launched a short film, “Dangerous Hope,” as part of the ongoing efforts to create awareness on the risks of human trafficking and galvanise stakeholders to take actions that will cumulatively enhance the protection environment for the affected groups in the communities we serve. This short film (Dangerous), examines human trafficking in the context of forced displacement, sets out to EDUCATE by increasing knowledge and awareness of Human Trafficking, PROMOTE ATTITUDINAL CHANGE for potential traffickers, and EMPOWER & MOBILIZE by making tools available that help survivors reclaim their lives.
