“The smugglers were throwing the passengers in the sea, beating them with sticks and forcing them off the ship. When they had thrown off the passengers the captain departed with the ship. I jumped into the water and saved some people who couldn’t swim.” Deeq had to flee from Somalia when he was threatened by extremists. He tried to get to South Africa, was abandoned on a desolate island in the sea, went to Sudan and managed to escape kidnappers taking him to Libya.
