Description
"I was so happy. I felt a different kind of happiness. Just thinking about having breakfast with my family! I couldn’t even sleep. I didn’t believe it was really happening until I was on board the plane.” This is the story of Kiros who was separated from his family for three years but finally managed to reunite with his family in France with the help of the French authorities, NGOs and UN Refugee Agency UNHCR. This video contains three versions, with each version focusing on unique parts of Kiro’s story. 1. Family Reunification – a safe alternative to dangerous journeys 2. Kiros’ struggle to survive in Libya https://studio.youtube.com/video/uO1iT-XxoN8/edit 3. Reunited! https://studio.youtube.com/video/2iGY-mWuaRE/edit Kiros and his wife Adiam are Eritreans who met and married in Sudan. Because of the lack of opportunities, Kiros left for South Sudan, where he worked for a year. When he returned to Khartoum, his wife and children were gone. Their situation became intolerable but Adiam had not been able to contact her husband. Though he had no idea where his family was but looking for them Kiros traveled to Libya where he struggled for his life. He also explains how hard life in Libya was by saying “In Libya, I faced two years of hell. Living conditions were absolutely terrible. It was the worst route to take. Many old people and children got sick and died there” He attempted to take a boat to reach Europe but the sea was too rough and was brought back to Libya Both Kiros and his wife Adiam worked very hard towards reuniting with each other. Adiam didn’t have information about Kiros for years, but in an effort to locate her husband, she reported him missing in France and requested the French authorities, UNHCR, and other organizations to help locate him. Fortunately, Kiros was traced by UNHCR and then he discovered that his family was in France looking for him. Kiros was finally reunified with his family after years of separation through the safe and regular Family Reunification process. #TellingtheRealStory
