Sagal's story: living in a limbo
Telling the Real Story
Description
“I have been here for five years. I never got what I was hoping for. In fact, my troubles have become worse. Imagine what constant negative decisions do to a person! Because of this I spend too much time thinking. But I cannot go back to the place I ran away from” says Sagal. Sagal is a young Somali woman who fled her homeland because her family insisted on circumcising her daughter. She refused to let that happen. But Somalis are not automatically getting asylum in Europe. This is not widely known in all parts of Somalia, and smugglers do not share information that would harm their business. Today, Sagal is living in a state of uncertainty, waiting for a decision on her case. Telling the Real Story is an information campaign to raise awareness about the dangers involved in using the smuggling route, including through Libya. The campaign is targeting people in different countries who are planning to undertake this dangerous journey. The Telling the Real Story campaign also aims at providing information on complementary pathways as alternative and regular opportunities to irregular movement FULL STORY will be released soon
