Gloria's Story: Sold in a slave market
Telling the Real Story
Description
Gloria lost her business in Nigeria and was being harassed by her creditors. A friend told her about a possibility to go to Europe to earn money, and they left with a smuggler. The journey through the desert was harsh, they were suffering from the heat and were hungry and thirsty. When they arrived in Libya, they realised the smuggler had cheated them. They were taken to a slave market and sold. Gloria never saw her friend again. She was herself taken away to a brothel where she was forced into prostitution. She stayed there for five months but was then bailed out by a man and started working as a housemaid. Life in Libya was not easy. There was fighting and insecurity, you were in constant danger of being robbed and killed. By that time, Gloria and the man she was living with had a child and she was expecting another baby. They thought they could not stay in Libya anymore and decided to escape across the sea to Europe. It was a horrifying experience. The sea was rough, and the waves were hitting the boat. When the rescue arrived, the boat was about to sink. Gloria is now in Malta with her family and she is thanking God for having saved her from the dangers on that journey.
