“I would recommend not sending money. Even if they kidnap a thousand of them, I would advise to cut the money. Stop that and stand together, that is my advice!” Foosiyo’s son was kidnapped by traffickers in Libya who kept harassing her even when she had sent ransom money. She realised that the only way to break this vicious circle is to refuse the kidnappers’ demands. She is now conducting a campaign in her native Somaliland to toughen legislation against smuggling.
