Ecuador Earthquake Leaves Thousands Homeless: UNHCR Responds

"A powerful earthquake hit Ecuador on Saturday 16 April, levelling buildings, buckling highways and resulting in widespread loss of power. It is the worst quake to hit the region in decades, with at least 650 people killed and 16,000 injured. More than 40,000 people have been left without homes and many thousands more are in need of assistance. In the first 72 hours following the Equador earthquake, we have airlifted 100 tonnes of relief items including tents, blankets, sleeping mats and mosquito nets to be dispatched to areas of devastation.
