Survivors of Mediterranean shipwreck wait in anguish in Italy
Australia for UNHCR
Description
70 severely burned refugees arrived at Lampedusa Island off the coast of Italy earlier this week. The refugees said that "traffickers held them in Libya before placing them on boats, and a gas cylinder exploded, killing several people and injuring many others. The traffickers would not allow them to leave and reach the hospital, so they didn't get treatment for few days and then they were put on a rubber dinghy," said Barbara Molinario, a UNHCR spokesperson. UNHCR speaks to survivors of the tragedy as they await news of their loved ones. ---- Subscribe to our Channel to stay up to date with the latest in refugee news and crises: https://www.youtube.com/user/Aus4unhcr UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, works to protect and assist those fleeing war and persecution.
