Fierce attacks continue across Ukraine, where people have endured almost two years of war. Now they face another emergency: winter. In Ukraine, temperatures fall well below zero and winter storms can be deadly. Homes, hospitals and schools have been destroyed. Families are sheltering in badly damaged homes or accommodation centres, desperate for the fighting to end. As winter sets in, UNHCR anticipates that attacks on energy infrastructure will increase – leaving communities without power and heating when they are most needed.
