Wars, other violence and persecution drove worldwide forced displacement to a new high in 2017 for the fifth year in a row. UNHCR’s annual Global Trends Report shows that 68.5 million people were displaced at the end of 2017. Over 16 million people were newly displaced during the course of the year. Overwhelmingly it is developing countries that are most affected. These are the top refugee-hosting countries for 2017.
