Even though Rama was born and raised in Lebanon, and her mother is Lebanese, Rama does not get to have Lebanese citizenship. Rama's mother Amal got married to a man who had no citizenship in any country (he was stateless) and had two children. Under Lebanese law, mothers like Amal cannot pass on their citizenship to their children. Today, more than 10 million people all around the world are told they do not belong anywhere. Often, they are not allowed to go to school, see a doctor, get a job, open a bank account, buy property or even get married.
