Pakistan Renewed Identity Cards

In July 2013, the Government of Pakistan announced to extend the validity of the PoR cards issued to Afghan refugees in the country. The PoR card is an important identity document which entitles the cardholder to legally remain in Pakistan until the end of 2015. The card is valid throughout Pakistan. Following the decision by the Government of Pakistan, the first phase of the PoR card renewal project started in February and concluded on 30 June 2014. More than 1.2 million Afghan refugees have so far received their renewed PoR cards. In the second phase of the project, from 2 July until the end of 2014, Pakistan's national database and registration authority (NADRA) will register some 150,000 children born to registered parents in the past five years.
