South Sudan: UNHCR Chief in Yida
Australia for UNHCR
Description
UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres visits Sudanese refugees in Yida settlement, only 12km away from South Sudan's volatile border from Sudan. Guterres urged refugees to stay away from the combat zone and move to safer camps in South Sudan. Due to its close proximity to the war zone, Yida settlement is difficult for humanitarian organisations to access. When Sudanese people cross the border, UNHCR immediately provides them with life-saving assistance, emergency medical care, food, water, and temporary shelters.
