Environmental projects involve refugees and migrants in Brazil
ACNUR Brasil
Description
In April 2022 UNHCR Brazil launched in Boa Vista, Brazil, the Sustainability Center for refugees and migrants. Accompanied by a series of environmental education and climate impact reduction initiatives, the projects aim to increase the quality of life in the shelters and empower refugees, migrants and Brazilians for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Climate change and the environment have a major influence on UNHCR's work, as well as on the lives of millions of forcibly displaced people around the world. Unsustainable use of natural resources can lead to environmental degradation, with long-lasting impacts on natural resources and the well-being of displaced and host communities. For this reason, UNHCR Brazil develops environmental actions in the Brazilian Amazon and other regions to reduce such impacts.
